Welschriesling is a grape variety that produces white grapes and is particularly widespread in Central and Southeastern Europe. Due to its high, regular yield and fine aroma, it is one of the favorites of many winemakers. The grapes produce a floral wine that brings fruity hints of green apple and a tangy freshness to the glass.
The Austrian winery Meinklang, for example, is a fan of this grape variety. The Demeter farm has a sustainable concept and sees the vineyard as a biotope in which countless species of animals and plants thrive. On its slopes you can find not only vines, but also weeds, fruit trees, vegetable plants and herbs. This natural diversity attracts beneficial insects, has positive effects on the soil and, among other things, offers the perfect home for Welschriesling.
A few liters of this carefully pressed drink found its way into the hallowed halls of a brewery. In a collaboration between Meinklang, Freigeist Bierkultur and Stillwater Artisanal, the noble wine was married to a wild ale. Wild yeasts fermented the two brews into an impressive whole that will have you wrapped around your finger with its gentle 6.0% alcohol content, sour grape aroma and light malt. The so-called White Wine Barrel Aged Wild Ale brings white grapes, sun-ripened grain, tasty yeast and spicy woody notes into the glass.
