Traditionally, Maerzen is a festival beer that was brewed in spring. Before the invention of electric cooling, people were still dependent on the weather, so the last beer before summer was often brewed in late March. In this month the air was still cold enough and you could cool the brew properly without any tools. The summer break sometimes lasted well into October, so the last brew of spring had to be a little stronger and more durable. Fortunately, beer is brewed all year round and Märzen has developed into one of the most popular beer styles in and around Franconia.
Of course, the Schlossbrauerei Ellingen also has a version of the classic in its range: The Fürst Carl Märzen delivers a skilful balance of hops and malt, which is thanks to a fine selection of excellent raw materials and the skilful hand of the brewers. The Hallertauer Gold hop variety is grown directly in Ellingen and contributes its bright, sparkling citrus notes to the creation. Perfectly matched to this, the beer plays soft notes of dark forest honey, creamy caramel and strong roasted aromas. Freshness and full-bodiedness mesh perfectly; the spicy tartness and the mild bitterness perfectly round off the pleasure.
We like this copper-colored specialty from Ellingen at any time of the year!
