A deserted island far from any civilization and stress factors such as WiFi or telephone reception. Crystal clear, warm water laps lazily over the sparkling white, fine sand. The coconut palms provide cool shade and the tropical sun shines from a cloudless sky. Hummingbirds buzz through the air and feast on the exotic flowers that line the beach. A hammock sways invitingly in the warm breeze and the only sound is the waves gently lapping the shore.
This is pretty much how the guys at Stone Brewing imagine the ideal environment in which their Tropic of Thunder lager should be enjoyed. If you can't afford a plane trip in terms of time or money, simply close your eyes and let your excellent beer take you to paradise for a few precious moments. The lager combines the best sides of a Pilsner with the exoticism of tropical fruits - a killer combination, that much can be revealed!
Tropic of Thunder flows into the glass in the clear gold tone of Caribbean sunshine and forms a stately, white head of foam. On the nose, the lager is almost as juicy and tropically fruity as an IPA: light malt meets roasted coconut, sweet pineapple, exotic passion fruit and sun-ripened mango. The hop varieties used, Cashmere, Citra and Mosaic, not only deliver an olfactory performance, they also conjure up a whole lot of flavor in the beer. Melon, lime, orange, pineapple and coconut celebrate a wild beach party on the tongue. Only towards the end is a bitterness added, which wonderfully complements the play of aromas.
Wow.
