Gluten-free beer was not a pleasure for a long time. The breweries resorted to gluten-free grains, which are not as suitable for brewing as barley, wheat or oats. Although millet or rice do not contain gluten, they do not bring the same full-bodied taste to the beer as their gluten-containing counterparts. The Schleicher brewery from Itzgrund has launched a project dedicated to producing good gluten-free beers. The brewing was preceded by two years of research in which a team of scientists and brewers worked to make the beer naturally gluten-free. Nobody wanted to compromise on taste, so a special brewing method was developed.
Today, Schleicher NATURAL produces wonderfully drinkable beer that lacks nothing but gluten.
A particularly refreshing example of this label is the NATURAL Radler. The fruity mixed beer drink is made with the finest beer and the juice of sun-kissed organic lemons. In contrast to most shandy, this one is not brewed with concentrate, but with direct juice from the golden fruits. Like all the other ingredients, the lemons come from Demeter biodynamic cultivation. In a gentle process, they are processed into delicious lemonade, which is then married to the beer. The brewers do not use any artificial additives, sweeteners or flavors at all.
