The beers in the White Label Series from the Dutch brewery Emelisse are barrel-aged beer specialties that get their special character through the use of different wooden barrels. The White Labels from 2018 focus on various flavor nuances and offer interested beer drinkers a wide range of exciting flavors. The Imperial Russian Stout Early Jack was filled into whiskey barrels after the brewing process and its taste is reminiscent of the wonderful aromas of a good whiskey.
Early Jack is best drunk from a fine, voluminous glass. Here the beer has enough space to develop its complex aromas. The dark beer presents itself in a deep black mahogany tone in the glass and forms a fine, beige head of foam. A wonderful aroma rises to the nose from the creamy foam: fiery whiskey meets delicately melting chocolate, freshly brewed coffee, licorice, roasted hazelnuts, a hint of vanilla and a small, smoky note of peat. What is already an olfactory delight reveals its gustatory repertoire when drunk. A bourbon-like sweetness washes over the palate and brings with it the taste of dried cherries. The fine fruitiness is accompanied by wonderful roasted aromas of coffee beans, roasted nuts and peat. Vanilla, chocolate and licorice give the beer a nice spiciness. The brilliant beer is rounded off by a pointed bitterness.
If you look at the wealth of aromas, Early Jack appears surprisingly light-footed and easy to drink on the tongue. The 10.8% alcohol content presents itself as fiery heat that warms body and soul.
An exciting Imperial Russian Stout!
