The Sunshine IPA from Espiga brings the Spanish sun into your glass. Espiga is the Spanish word for ear of wheat and the name of a brewery that came from a heart project. The two former biologists Teresa and Arnau felt called to create something extraordinary: a beer that has a soul. They wanted to create a beer that exudes a person with personality, character, rough edges and liveliness and a clear statement. Anyone who has ever tasted Espiga beers knows how well they did it.
With 5.5% ABV, the Sunshine IPA is in the range of drinkable beers, a mild, moderate bitterness also supports the drinkability. Espiga relies on the Willamate and Simcoe hop varieties, two particularly popular American hop varieties. When it comes to malt, Espiga relies on pale ale, pilsner and melanoidin malt for that extra kick of sunshine. This results in a sweet IPA in a dark golden color with reddish reflections. Aromas of peach and yellow fruits fill your nose. The velvety peach taste of Simcoe hops can also be found in the initial taste. This fruity aroma is framed by subtle floral notes. The body is characterized by a silky caramel note, which is due to the melanoidin malt. This malt is often used in beers that are supposed to taste particularly round and it also conjures up the beautiful red color in the beer. The mild bitterness in the finish lets the beer finish harmoniously.
