Craft brewers are constantly looking for new, innovative raw materials and techniques. The world of beer is a fast-paced one with constant innovations. The hop is a major adjusting screw with which a beer can be transformed and shaped, and the hop farmers of this world are working flat out to discover, crossbreed and cultivate varieties. As with everything, green gold also has trends that can be seen in the beers of the year. The so-called hop hash is completely new and not yet so widespread.

Hop hash is a by-product of hop production that occurs when hop pellets are pressed. Like kief, the lupulin powder collects at the bottom of the machine and is collected by hand. Due to its high concentration of lupulin, the hop hash is particularly aromatic and is ideal for dry hopping the finest beers. Because hop pellets are actually only produced at harvest time in October, the hop hash is only available then and is usually sold out.

The brewers of the Spanish brewery Espiga were fast enough and were able to secure their ration hop hash. The beer of the same name is brewed in collaboration with Dougall’s and impresses with intensive hopping, juicy fruit notes, a silky-soft mouthfeel and a strong body.
