The Spanish brewery Espiga launched a new series some time ago. As part of the DUAL HOPS series, the brewers focus on two types of hops per beer and get every little bit of flavor out of the green gold. Many modern craft beers currently contain five or more types of hops, so reducing them to two is an exciting concept.
For the eighth brew in the series, the team chose the classic Mosaic and the experimental new variety YQH-1320. While Mosaic brings a range of tropical aromas such as mango, pineapple and citrus into play combined with pine resin, herbs and stone fruits, the new variety, which has now been renamed Elani, conjures up a clear, bright taste in the beer. Released in 2022, the hops taste of pineapple, guava, lime, white peach and sun-ripened orange.
Espiga’s DUAL HOPS creation combines the two into a sunny yellow brew with creamy foam and a tropical scent. The initial taste reveals a juicy body that lets fresh notes of pineapple, orange, mango, honeydew melon and lime dance on the tongue. Three different grains ensure a silky-soft base. The beer has an alcohol content of 6.3% and has a mild 25 units of bitterness in the glass.
