White is a reminder of the beginnings of the Bira 91 brewery. Before the company set foot on Indian soil, all beers were brewed in Belgium. There it was easier to get hold of the raw materials and the first brews could be produced more easily and cheaply. The brewery has now moved to India and brews its beer there as well.
Their white is their very own take on the Belgian wit, traditionally made with orange peel and coriander seeds. In order to come as close as possible to the original, our Indian brewers have also used these special ingredients. Combined with malt, oat flakes and Saaz hops, they result in a fine wit with an international twist. The wheat malt and the coriander were grown in India, the orange peels come from Latin America.
Bira 91’s creation presents a successful balance of fruity sweetness, citrus-fresh acidity and beautiful spiciness. With this flavor profile, the beer goes perfectly with light, fresh cuisine. Our favorite with white is a green curry with shrimp or chicken. Bird’s-eye chillies add spiciness, a generous helping of veggies and lemongrass add freshness, and coconut milk delivers delicious creaminess and richness. We serve it with rice, a handful of coriander leaves, lime wedges and chopped chili peppers. The Wi is the perfect accompaniment for this.
