Quarantine is no longer a foreign word for anyone. Everyone has experienced it and everyone can tell countless stories about it. Today we tell the legend behind the unpleasant term.
No city in the world has been plagued by the horrors of the plague as often as Venice. The insidious plague has descended on the lagoon city countless times with devastating consequences. To prevent the uncontrolled spread of the disease, the Doge of Venice proclaims the first quarantine in history. An entire island is declared a hospital. All ships arriving in Venice during the plague were first searched for plague victims. If those affected were found, the rest of the crew was quarantined on the hospital island for forty days.
Fortunately, the days of the plague are long behind us, but quarantine is still in place. In order to sweeten the current situation a little, the Greek brewery Septem has created a beer. The New England IPA is called Quaranta Giorni, which means 40 days in Italian and is based on the origins of quarantine in Venice.
The hopped beer presents itself in a naturally cloudy amber tone in the glass full of exotic fruit aromas. It smells and tastes like a whole bouquet of tropical fruits and is wonderfully bitter.
Extremely successful.
