"It’s a match" are words that can decide entire destinies in the age of online dating. With the swipe of a nimble finger, we could meet the love of our life and find pure happiness. Dream couples are not only found in the world of dating, but also in the culinary world. So-called food pairings are combinations of flavors that sometimes don’t necessarily go together at first glance. We serve strawberries with basil or balsamic vinegar, eat chocolate or mango with a hint of chili and season fish with vanilla. It sounds strange, but it’s supposed to taste great.
Orca Brau from the Franconian metropolis of Nuremberg has also taken on a daring pairing: for their latest beer, the brewers have used beetroot and pepper. The basis is a Belgian saison with barley and wheat malt. The beetroot comes from the Nuremberg region, while the pepper was imported from Sumatra in Indonesia. The variety used is called Andaliman and grows wild there. The grains conjure up a mild spiciness in the beer and provide an intense citrus aroma that goes perfectly with the earthiness of the beetroot.
The brew is called It’sa Match and combines earthy notes with floral spiciness, fresh fruitiness, soft malt and spicy yeast. A wonderful deep red color and voluminous 8.0% alcohol content round off this unconventional beer enjoyment in a lively way.
