País Tropical is a so-called Solar Session IPA. The brewers of the only beer of this kind so far are the guys from Oedipus, who brew a special beer every year to thank the generous donors of their solar system for their financial help. In a crowdfunding campaign, the people of Amsterdam raised the money for 24 solar panels. The solar system now sits enthroned on the roof of the brewery and supplies sunny electricity for beer production.

This year’s thank-you beer for the donors is a 4.5% session IPA, which with its fruity-light character makes you think of summery days and extravagant vacations in exotic countries. The handpicked hop varieties Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic and Mandarina Bavaria ensure the holiday flair in the beer, while the oat flakes added take care of the silky-soft mouthfeel. The beer flows into the glass in the light color of early morning sunshine and is adorned with a fleeting crown of white, airy foam. A fresh scent of green hops and tropical fruit fills the nose and tempts you to take the first sip. The initial taste reveals a light-footed body with fruity sweetness and delicate acidity. Juicy notes of pineapple, mango, papaya, mandarin, grapefruit and passion fruit wash over the palate and put the taste buds in a holiday mood. A touch of bitter underlines the fruity play of aromas and rounds off the fine dry beer enjoyment.
