Johann Georg Pfister was not only the founder of the Pfister brewery, a hard-working master brewer, Magdalena’s husband, Michael’s father and a passionate beer fan, he was also a man of faith. Because charity is just as much a part of Catholicism as regular prayer, Johann was one of the founders of the church in Schirnaidl. He donated a generous sum to the community and contributed as a good Catholic.
In honor of this good deed, his family brewed a fine full beer to mark the 300th anniversary of the church. The brew was named after the village of Schirnaidl and is brewed with ingredients from controlled organic farming. The noble drop has a pleasant 4.6% alcohol content and flows into the glass in a coppery, shimmering gold tone. The fine-pored head of foam smells temptingly of caramel, malt and beech wood smoke. The first taste runs down the throat like liquid silk and kisses the tongue with notes of creamy blossom honey, toffee, spicy yeast and light grain. A hint of citrus acid and a gentle bitterness round off the taste profile. Pfister’s Schirnaidler has a medium body and scores with a round profile and an appealing smoke aroma.
Even though Johann Georg Pfister no longer enjoys his beer himself, we now benefit from his good heart and the adoration of his family.
