In contrast to most other representatives of the White Label series from 2019, number 2 is not matured in whiskey barrels. After completion, the dark ale is poured into port wine barrels.
Oak barrels that previously contained Tawny Port are used to refine the beer. There is both ruby red port and a variant that is reminiscent of chestnut in color. Tawny is the chestnut-brown type, which, in contrast to the red port, is not stored in the usual large-format barrels, but in small oak barrels. The smaller barrels ensure an even more flavorful wine. If the barrels are converted for beer storage, the beer acquires correspondingly strong aromas from the oak wood during the maturation process. The additional storage also makes the beer more balanced and full-bodied.
Emelisse's White Label Dark Ale Tawny Port Barrel Aged flows into the glass in the color of autumnal chestnuts and is slightly cloudy. A delicate layer of fine-pored, beige foam crowns the beer and exudes a wonderful scent of dry red wine, roasted malt, English toffee and red berries. The initial taste reveals a creamy, full-bodied body with a myriad of different flavor nuances. A complex aroma structure of caramel, dark baked sourdough bread, rum-soaked raisins, brown rock sugar, dried berries, licorice, heavy red wine and delicately melting chocolate builds up on the tongue. A fresh acidity and a strong alcohol note accompany the intense play of aromas.
A celebration of dark flavors!
