When you work in a brewery, the after-work beer is just as much a part of the working day as the lunch break or meetings. The staff of the Canadian brewery Steamworks Brewing has a clear favorite when it comes to their nightly beer: Steamworks Heroica Red Ale is the perfect composition for a cozy end to the day and impresses with its particularly tasty character.
However, the hops do not play first fiddle in this creation. In the hop-crazy world of craft beer, malt has almost taken a back seat and often fades a bit in the hopped creations. Not so with Heroica! The Red Ale produces an impressive amount of five different types of malt and elicits a full cornucopia of wonderful aromas from the grain. Hops are also present, of course, but the clear protagonist of this beer is the malt in all its glory.
This fact becomes clear as soon as you pour it into the glass: Heroica flows into the glass in a shimmering coppery chestnut brown and exudes a seductive scent of freshly baked biscuits, candied fruit and finely roasted cereals. The hops contribute subtle hints of citrus fruit and pine resin. The attack reveals a smooth beer with notes of toasted hazelnuts, creamy toffee and rich malt. A hint of grapefruit, grassy undertones and a nice bitterness complete the beer enjoyment.
We stock Heroica in both bottles and cans.
